On Saturday January 28th 2023, the 6th edition of the Frosty Hills disc golf tournament was held at the Spa Hills disc golf course in Toplice Sveti Martin. The weather conditions were not really ideal, as the temperature was around 0 to 2 degrees Celsius, and there was some cold north wind of 3 to 5 m/s, but despite this, a record number for this event, 47 players from Croatia, Austria, Hungary and Slovenia joined the event.
The competition started at 10:30, was played in two 14-hole rounds, and ended with the winners ceremony at 17:00.
15 players participated in the MPO category, and the title was taken by Tomislav Gorički (Flying Disc club Zagreb) with a total score of 2 under par and excellent rounds worth 947 and 993 rating points. In the second round, Tomislav played the course in 43 throws (-3) and thus set a new course record. Blaž Petrovič (Slovenia) ended up on the second place two shots behind, and third was shared by Balint Kazai (Hungary) and Dinko Šimenc (Disc Golf Club Lagoda, Varaždin).
Only three players participated in the FPO women's open category this time, and the victory was won by the best Croatian player Ana Gorički (FDK Zagreb) with an excellent +14 over par and rounds worth 877 and 876 rating points. In both rounds, Ana played an identical score of 53 throws (+7), thus setting a new course record in the women's competition. Second place went to Tina Šimenc (DGK Lagoda), and third place to Jelena Geček (Disc Golf Club Varaždin).
In addition to two open categories, the competition also took place in three rating based divisions – red for players rated up to 900, green for players rated up to 850 and purple for players rated up to 800.
10 players participated in the Red category, and Benjamin Mauch (Austria) won ahead of Aron Bognar (Hungary) and Tomislav Kačavenda (Disc Golf Club Stubaki, Stubičke Toplice).
In the Green category, 6 players participated, and all three places on the podium were taken by players from Slovenia - Matic Blaž won with +13, Jan Uršič took second and Primož Belčič third.
In the Purple category, 13 male and female players participated, and the victory was won by the young Petar Mikić (Disc golf club Varaždin) with +24. Second place was won by Ivan Klanjčić (DGK Stubaki), and third place by Matija Razum from Samobor.
Side events to the tournament were Ace pool and CTP. Ace pool, for which the registration fee was €1, was paid by 25 players, but the ace was not scored, so the amount is transferred to the next tournament organized by Lagoda - Chasing Sparrows. The CTP (Closest to the pin) game was won by Andrej Kozic, whose disc on hole 5 landed only 62 cm from the basket.
After the winners ceremony, a tournament raffle was held, in which prizes with a total equivalent value of €155 were awarded. Players who were drawn in the raffle could choose some of the remaining prizes (Prodigy disc golf backpack, t-shirts and souvenirs with the tournament logo, etc.). The award was taken by Balint Kazai, Tina Šimenc, Aki Vucković, Adis Isanović, Nino Đurak, Aron Bognar, Anđelko Zrinski, Alexander Regenfelder, Matic Blaž and Tomislav Frković. Players who won the raffle prize cannot win it in the next two Lagoda events. Branimir Pongrac, Marco Jandl and Primož Belčić were also drawn in the raffle, but they were not present and a new player was drawn who took the prize.
The results of the competition can be found on the PDGA website.
