The Lagoda Team Showdown is a team disc golf tournament that will be held for the second time on August 30 and 31, 2025, in Varaždin. The tournament coincides with the Špancirfest festival, allowing participants to enjoy the vibrant evening atmosphere alongside numerous locals and other city visitors.
This team disc golf format was originally introduced as a side event during the Drava Forester tournament in 2017 and has consistently attracted significant interest from participants. In 2024, it was held as a standalone team PDGA event, featuring six teams. The first Lagoda Team Showdown saw Birdogey Bros claim victory, followed by Black Cats in second place, and TITA in third. Other teams included Four Body Problem, Immanuel Kant Putt, and lapfix.hr. A detailed report on the tournament can be read on a dedicated page.
Competition Rules - Team Formation
A team consists of four players, and the condition is that the average PDGA rating of all team members must not exceed 888. In other words, the sum of their PDGA ratings can be a maximum of 3.552.
The valid PDGA rating of team members on the day of registration is used as the standard.
If the players' ratings increase following the update on May 13 or earlier, the registration is invalid, and the team must re-register with modified members and a total rating not exceeding 3.552.
If ratings increase during updates in June, July, or August, the team will still be eligible to participate in the tournament.
If a player without a rating played tournaments in 2024 or 2025 and their average rating for the last nine rounds exceeds 888, this value is considered their rating.
If a player has not participated in PDGA tournaments, their rating is assumed to be 888.
Competition Rules - Gameplay
The Lagoda Team Game format presents a tactical challenge for teams as they must plan which member will best perform the initial throw on specific holes or organize gameplay for each hole after the initial throw, depending on the position where the play continues.
The game is played similarly to standard doubles but with four players instead of two, following these conditions:
A team consists of 4 members
1. | One team member performs each throw (e.g., one throws from the tee, another continues, then a third throws, and the fourth putts).
2. | Each player must throw the initial shot on four holes (out of the 16 holes on the course).
3. | The team decides during gameplay which player will perform the initial throw on each hole. A player can also throw the initial shot on four consecutive holes.
4. | After the initial throw, the rest of the team members continue playing on that hole, with each player making one throw. Once all players have made one throw, any team member can take their second throw. If the game continues, the remaining players will take their second throw. If all players make two throws and the disc is not in the basket, the game progresses to a third round of throws, and so on. The hole is completed when the disc lands in the basket. |
Scores will be recorded online via PDGA Live, but each team will also receive a paper scorecard to track which players have thrown and ensure that gameplay follows the established rules.
If a team member withdraws from the competition (e.g., due to injury) and the team completes the round, the team may register a new member for subsequent rounds, provided the original rating requirements are met.
