The Mars Springs tournament presented by Enigma Stars was organized by the Varaždin Disc Golf Club Lagoda through three competitive rounds played on Saturday and Sunday, March 9th and 10th. The competitions took place at the Jupiter's Shade course in Varaždinske Toplice, in the forest next to an archaeological site.
This competition, organized by the Croatian Flying Disc Federation, has been held since 2016, and in its eighth season, it consists of 10 tournaments that will be played from March to December on 10 different courses across Croatia. Currently, there are 8 disc golf and flying disc clubs in Croatia whose members participate in the league, competing in the first and second men's and women's leagues, as well as in the team rankings.
The tournament attracted 50 competitors from Croatian clubs, as well as players from Austria, Slovenia, and Hungary. Despite the light rain that fell for most of Saturday, excellent results were achieved.
In the elite men's open category, the victory went to Tomislav Gorički (Flying Disc Club Zagreb), followed by Marijan Krištofić (DGK Stubaki) in second and Gerald Wolbl (DGK Petzen, Austria) in third place.
In the elite women's open category, Danica Pajtak (Disc Golf Club Varaždin) took the victory, ahead of Maja Šimenc (DKG Lagoda) in second and Tina Šimenc (DGK Lagoda) in third place.
In addition to the elite categories, the competition also took place in three lower categories. Botond Bodosi (Hungary) won the Red category, Antonio Grigić (DGK Lagoda) was the best in the Green category, and Cornelia Hackl (DGK Pannonia, Austria) became the winner in the Purple category.
As is customary at disc golf tournaments, participants who wish to do so add 1€ to the "ace pool", i.e., for hitting the basket from the tee of a particular hole. If an ace is not achieved, the entire amount is carried over to the next tournament, so on this tournament, the pool amounted to 156€. After four tournaments without an ace, two were recorded last weekend in Varaždinske Toplice, so Marijan Krištofić and Adrian Liber (DGK Lagoda) shared this amount.
The title sponsor of this tournament was the Čakovec-based company Enigma Stars, which supported the competition with its products, and valuable gift packages were received by the most successful competitors.
The next Croatian Disc Golf League tournament will be held on Saturday, March 23rd in Zagreb, at a course located near the Faculty of Kinesiology.
